My 1st Game

First Game in Development

After the modest yet successful launch of the "Definitive Guide to the Raycasting Game Maker," I'm now in the process of designing the artwork and animations for my first game, which will be using the Raycasting Game Maker and all of the knowledge I accumulated producing that guide.

A few hints of this project exist in the guide itself, in this "Fruit Weapon" concept that takes place in a hedge maze. But the full game is far far stranger.

My plan is to create the weirdest game I can within the limitations of the Raycasting Game Maker, as enemy behavior is baked in and can't be changed, and levels can only be horizontal maps with no buttons, puzzles, or hidden secrets. Although, some of these are still possible with careful level design, just not in the conventional DOOM fashion.

Currently, I'm working every evening and weekend on 100s of textures and sprites to populate my game. Some art will be supported and augmented with royalty free photos from Pexels and Pixabay, but the vast majority will be completely original pixel art, which until now, I've only attempted a small amount of. So this project will challenge me, especially when planning out the enemy animations. But it's a challenge I'm ready to tackle.

I don't want to share much more about what the game is about, or even the name until I have more ready. But once the main title screen has been designed, that's when I'll reveal the name and the story.

Tune in this weekend and next week for more updates.
